Birdsville 11th October
Today at 10.42 am local time Carla has ended the crossing
of the Simpson Desert that lasted twenty days and 430 k's long.
Yesterday night on our usual and last sat contact Carla's voice
showed a little emotion: in a way the big happyness for having realized a
dream lasted ten years; on the other side a little sadness
for leaving an enviroment that has been home for the last twenty
days. It useless to say it, we were all ansious to see her after twenty
daYs and to hear from her real voice the impressions about this desert.
Here in the outback the days runs without any shock and in the small comunity of Birdsville this event has been followed with very much interest. At the arrival there were 15/20 people (the total population is 100 souls) that were shooting
and clapping hand. The waiting was full of tension but when "the lady of the desert" came out from
the top of the Big Red we understood that she had done it and the expedition was sucessfull.
The first words on the arrival line while hugging Oscar were".... the dream came true....my dream came true..." and after that she
turned around and almost praying thanked the desert. The aborigenal comunity in the name of Don Rowlands (our guide) wanted to
give a little present for the success: a bottle full of all Simpson Desert's sands. After shooting the classic photos Carla and the Focus Support Team arrived in Birdsville where, at the local clinic, Oscar made her a blood test that will be studied from prof Veicstenas of the Milan University. The program for the next days will be to move from here to Alice Spring in three days and arriving in Milan Saturday the 18th in the afternoon. This will be the last report so I would like to thank you for the interest showed in following the expedition. See yaa from the Focus Support Team!!!!
