22nd september 2003
Finally that's it.....After seven days from the departure from Milan Carla today (the 22nd of september at 9.28 am) has began the crossing
of the Simpson Desert. The phisical conditions are OK but psicologically Carla is a little bit tired due to the
technical problem to the comunication system. For few days we were afraid to be unable to
get in touch with all the friend that were awaiting news from the desert. But after long australian nights (italian days) of streneous work with
Andrea (the web site engeneer) and Daniela (the contact of speeka the company that gave us the sat pnones and PC). We left Alice Springs on ther 19th and arrive in Dalhousie the next afternoon where we met Mr Don our local guide that will be with us to Birdsville. We stayed two days in Dalhousie in order to let Carla finish the settings af all the materials. Is clear that in this expedition the real big problem will be the temperature: today at 10 am the temperature was 39 degree C; at two pm it was 45 and at night it will go down to 13. The Focus Support Team has move ahead 75 km and left water that Carla will find with the GPS point. By the way: today was so hot that me and Oscar to have an operational breafing
met in the car with A/C on........with this temperature we will cook very soon our brains!!!
