Arsenio Veicsteinas (Bellano, Lecco, October 9th, 1944), graduated in Medicine with honours (1970, Milano), specialized in Cardiology (1974) and Sports Medicine (1982).

Assistant Professor (1971-1977), and Buswell Fellow, Dept. of Physiology, University of Buffalo, USA (1976-1977). Associate Professor in Human Physiology (1977-1986 University of Brescia, Italy) at the School of Medicine. Appointed for Full Professor in Human Physiology at the University of Brescia, School of Medicine (1986-2001), and then at the University of Milan, School of Exercise Sciences (2001 to present). Director of “Physical Exercise, Health and Sports” Institute (PEHSI), University of Milan.

His field of research covers the Physiology of Muscle Exercise (metabolism, respiratory and cardiocirculatory adjustments to exercise) and the control of muscle contraction (electromyogram and mechanomyogram) in healthy and disabled subjects. Particular interest is also devoted to the study of exercise and sport procedures to increase wellness and fitness in elderly and disabled populations.

Co-author of about 100 publications, 4 chapters in textbooks, several participations to International Congresses (more than 50 as a speaker).

Reviewer for J Appl Physiol; Eur J Appl Physiol; Med Sci Sports Exerc; Int J Sports Med; J Biomech; J Electromyogr Kinesiol; and British Journal of Sport Medicine. Scientific board of the Journal “Sport e Medicina” (since 1985).

Regional President of the Italian Society for Sports Cardiology (since 1997). Member of the National and Regional Committee for Sport Medicine (since 1998). National Coordinator of a Telethon Project (1996)and Cofin 40% (1997). National coordinator of grants for the Ministry of Health (1999, with 4 Operating Units, and 2001, with 7 Operating Units). In 1999, he is one of the founders of the School for Exercise Sciences at the University of Milan.

Member of the American Physiological Society, American College of Sports Medicine, European Society for Engineering and Medicine, Italian Physiological Society, International Society of Electrophysiological Kinesiology.
